In this blog post, we are going to share HR.my, an absolutely free human resource management app for your business. This application was founded by solopreneur Kap-Chew Ang helping keep development costs low and providing “free” access to all modules available in HR.my, which might be premium in most HR applications in the market. Learn more here. HR.my can replace all traditional paperwork and digitalize processes with proper records. As most companies are now reducing their carbon footprint, as a small business, we should do our part too!

We discovered this application when searching for a free app to manage our small business with just 5 people. We found that HR.my provides all essential functions for human resource management for free and supports up to 66 languages. It is suitable for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) looking to digitize their human resource management. The system is compatible with most computer operating systems (Windows/macOS) as it is a Web App – accessible via most web browsers like Google Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Microsoft Edge. The iOS and Android apps are available in their respective stores.

While all available modules are free to access, sponsoring HR.my removes ads and unlocks higher storage limits and more accounts with HR roles, along with access to unreleased features and functions in preview mode.

We have tried the HR.my system on both a computer (macOS) and Android apps. Here is a summary of our findings:

Key Features:

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.
  • Leave Management
  • Payroll Processing
  • Attendance Management System and Time Clock
  • Expense Claim Management
  • Incident Management
  • Approval Workflow
  • Announcement and Notice Board
  • Team Collaboration and Knowledge Management

The app consists of the modules listed above. Users can use it as a typical leave management system and attendance management system, common among most HR apps in the market. However, users must set up in advance using an HR role account or admin account and assign the correct leave days or time management rules to the respective employee. All settings can be done in either the computer’s web browser or mobile app.

Additionally, this app includes incident management and expense claim management, useful for MSMEs without needing a separate app for claim management and incident reporting. These features (including leave management) have an approval workflow to ensure correct approval is requested and routed to the approver(s) (pre-setup is needed). The payroll system tracks payroll for employees and auto-generates payslips. It also helps to calculate all the SOCSO, EPF and Tax contribution which is a great features. However, it does not automate salary debiting to employees’ bank accounts. The announcement and notice board are useful for company-wide announcements, and teams can communicate and share documents on this platform. However, due to storage limitations and comparing features with market collaboration tools, we believe Google Workspace or Microsoft 365 might be more suitable.

Ease of Use/UX/UI :

Rating: 2 out of 5.

More features or functions usually lead to a worsened user experience (UX) due to more buttons and settings in the application. This is the case for HR.my too. There are many buttons and settings to familiarize yourself with before being able to use it. Since it is free to use without paying any single cent, no complaints 🙂

Advantage & Disadvantage
  • Advantage 1 – It’s totally free! No need for credit card details or a single cent to use all features currently available in HR.my.
  • Advantage 2 – The app is accessible through web browsers and mobile apps, compatible with most operating systems.
  • Advantage 3 – New features are included for free! Sponsors get access to unreleased preview features, but once released, non-paying users can use them for free too!
  • Disadvantage 1 – Settings and setup are complicated and time-consuming. The company might need to invest some effort and time in setting up the system beforehand.
  • Disadvantage 2 – The UI is not “modernized”; it looks like 5/6-year-old technology.
  • Disadvantage 3 – No official onsite user training, demo, or customer service. To keep costs low, there is only an online user guide and support forum available for reference and feedback.

Conclusion:

HR.my is genuinely a good app capable of digitizing all human resource management processes. Since it is free to use, it helps the company reduce operational costs. If the company is looking for expansion or requires additional limits, consider becoming HR.my sponsors!
